How this score was built

Each indicator scores 2, 1 or 0. A pillar is the points earned over the points available; the overall score is the weighted sum. Every source below is public — check any of them yourself.

A multi-chain NFT marketplace spanning five networks including Bitcoin Ordinals, with the broadest chain coverage in this comparison.

Our assessment

Magic Eden operates across five chains — the widest coverage of any marketplace in this comparison — including Solana, Ethereum, Polygon and Bitcoin Ordinals. It became Solana's dominant venue and then expanded outward rather than defending one chain.

Ordinals support was a real bet

Bitcoin NFTs require entirely different infrastructure: no smart contracts, different wallet standards, different indexing. Building for that when it was unproven was a substantive commitment, and it made Magic Eden one of the few venues where a collector can hold across genuinely dissimilar chains in one place.

Multi-chain marketplaces face a fee problem

Marketplace competition drove trading fees toward zero and royalty enforcement collapsed alongside it. A venue supporting five chains carries five times the engineering and indexing cost while earning less per trade than venues did in 2021. That economics question sits behind every marketplace in this category.

Evidence position

No audit report was retrievable at a public address at this check, and value locked at $0.1m reflects a marketplace model where assets are not custodied rather than a measure of activity. Our market-quality pillar reads the on-chain figure, which understates a venue of this kind.

Who it suits

Magic Eden fits collectors active across multiple chains, especially those holding both Solana NFTs and Bitcoin Ordinals. Professional traders will find deeper tooling at Blur.

Frequently asked

Does this rank marketplaces by trading volume?

No. NFT volume figures are widely inflated by wash trading and we do not rank on numbers we cannot verify. The score covers audits, methodology and independently recorded data.

Why is value locked low for large marketplaces?

Most marketplace trading settles without holding assets in contracts, so value locked understates activity. We publish it as the available independent figure, not as a measure of market share.

Are creator royalties assessed?

No. Royalty enforcement is a marketplace policy that changes frequently and is not verifiable from a single public source.
