How this score was built

Each indicator scores 2, 1 or 0. A pillar is the points earned over the points available; the overall score is the weighted sum. Every source below is public — check any of them yourself.

A crypto research platform combining curated protocol reports with standardised asset metrics, offering a free tier above a professional subscription product.

Our assessment

Messari's product is written research and standardised metrics: quarterly protocol reports, comparable financial statements across protocols, and asset profiles. It is closer to an equity research house than to a data terminal, and the free tier carries a useful share of it.

Standardisation is the underrated part

Every protocol reports its own numbers its own way — one counts fees, another revenue, a third something it calls both. Messari's contribution is forcing them into a comparable structure, which is what makes cross-protocol comparison possible at all. It is unglamorous, and it is the reason analysts cite it.

Research has a point of view

Written research reflects the analyst's framing and, sometimes, the commercial relationships of the platform publishing it. That is true of every research house in every asset class. Read the data and the methodology; treat the conclusions as one informed view rather than as findings.

Free tier, professional pricing above it

A meaningful amount of data and reporting is free, with professional tiers priced for institutions. Fourteen indicators found nothing published at conventional addresses and ten returned automated-verification blocks — the pricing and terms surface is the weak point, as it is across this whole category.

Who it suits

Messari fits investors who want written analysis and comparable metrics rather than raw data, particularly for evaluating protocols as businesses. Users who want to run their own numbers should use Dune or DefiLlama.

Frequently asked

Does this score mean Messari is trustworthy?

No. It measures what is published and reachable before use: the service, its terms and its documentation. Custody, routing and corporate structure are not tested by us.

Why do all providers score zero on corporate entity?

Because this class of service rarely publishes it. The indicator is identical for every provider in the category, so the comparison stays fair.

Are rates or spreads compared here?

No. Verifying quoted rates requires live transactions, which we do not perform. The rubric covers disclosure, not execution.
