About Virtuals Protocol
Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL) is a launchpad for tokenized AI agents. Launched in 2024, it lets anyone create, tokenize and monetize autonomous AI agents for gaming, entertainment and virtual worlds without writing code. VIRTUAL is the ecosystem's base currency: every agent token is paired against it, and all agent interactions settle in VIRTUAL. It ranks around 122nd by market capitalization.
What is Virtuals Protocol?
Virtuals Protocol is an on-chain platform for building and owning AI agents. These agents are multimodal, capable of text, speech and 3D animation, and can even manage their own on-chain wallets. A well-known example is Luna, an AI vocalist with a large TikTok following. The project evolved from PathDAO, a gaming guild founded in 2021 that pivoted to AI agents in early 2024, and was co-founded by Jansen Teng and Weekee Tiew. It raised roughly $16 million in seed funding led by DeFiance Capital and Beam.
How does Virtuals Protocol work?
New agents are created through a bonding-curve launch that costs 100 VIRTUAL. Traders buy and sell an agent's token along that curve until it accumulates 42,000 VIRTUAL, at which point the agent 'graduates' into a permanent liquidity pool paired with VIRTUAL. Agent behavior is powered by the GAME framework, which lets agents process inputs, generate responses and remember past interactions. The protocol began on Base, Ethereum's Layer 2, and has since expanded to Ethereum mainnet, Solana and Ronin.
Virtuals Protocol tokenomics and supply
VIRTUAL has a fixed maximum supply of 1,000,000,000 tokens, with total supply already at that cap and roughly 657 million in circulation. When users interact with agents, the fees they pay in VIRTUAL generate protocol revenue, which funds periodic buybacks and burns. Those burns reduce supply over time, creating a value-accrual mechanism for holders. VIRTUAL has traded between an all-time low near $0.0075 and an all-time high above $5.07.
What is Virtuals Protocol used for?
- Base currency and liquidity pair for every AI agent launched on the platform
- Payment for agent interactions, which generates protocol revenue
- Staking into veVIRTUAL for DAO governance and potential agent-token airdrops
In 2025 the project announced partnerships with Animoca Brands and a collaboration with Zyfai and BasisOS on an agentic 'Fund of Funds,' signaling ambitions beyond a single launchpad.
Where to buy Virtuals Protocol
VIRTUAL is listed on numerous centralized exchanges and on decentralized venues across Base, Solana and Ethereum. Compare fees and liquidity in our best crypto exchanges ranking, and to hold or stake the token yourself, choose a compatible self-custody option from our best crypto wallets guide.
Is Virtuals Protocol a good investment?
VIRTUAL sits at the intersection of two volatile themes, AI and crypto, and its value depends on real usage of its agent ecosystem. The buyback-and-burn model only creates value if agents attract sustained fees. Adoption of AI agents is early and unproven, and prices can move sharply. This is not financial advice; treat VIRTUAL as a high-risk, high-uncertainty position and research thoroughly before committing capital.
