Overview

About Shiba Inu

SHIB is an ERC-20 token launched with an extremely large supply, a substantial portion of which was sent to a burn address at the outset. Unlike most memecoins it has built a surrounding ecosystem — a Layer 2 network, a decentralised exchange and additional tokens — which changes what there is to analyse.

The founding burn is the defining supply event

A very large share of supply was sent to an address nobody controls, permanently removing it. Whether one regards that as genuine destruction or as theatre around an arbitrarily large initial number, the effect is verifiable on-chain and it is the single most consequential fact in the token's supply history.

Shibarium routes burns through usage

The project's Layer 2 directs a portion of transaction fees to burning SHIB, tying supply reduction to network activity rather than to discretionary announcements. This is a more durable mechanism than periodic burn events, and its impact depends entirely on how much the network is actually used.

Multiple tokens, different purposes

The ecosystem includes additional tokens for governance and rewards alongside SHIB. Holders should understand which token carries which right, because they are not interchangeable and the distinctions are easy to miss in a project with this many moving parts.

Very large supply is a presentation issue, not an economic one

A token priced in tiny fractions is not therefore cheap: what matters is total value, not price per unit. Supply size affects nothing about the asset's economics and considerably distorts how people perceive it — a persistent source of poor decisions in this category.

What actually drives it

Community attention and speculative flows, moderated by the ecosystem's genuine development. Memecoins with real infrastructure occupy an unusual middle position: more substance than a pure meme, and still an asset whose price is driven by attention rather than by cash flows.

Frequently asked

Why is SHIB's supply so large?

It launched with an extremely large number of tokens, a substantial portion of which was sent to a burn address at the outset. Supply size affects perception rather than economics.

What is Shibarium?

The project's Layer 2 network, which directs a share of transaction fees to burning SHIB, tying supply reduction to actual usage.

Does a low price per token mean SHIB is cheap?

No. Total value matters, not price per unit. A token priced in fractions of a cent can be worth more in aggregate than one priced in dollars.
