OKB is the utility token of a major exchange, giving fee discounts and access to platform services. Its supply has been reduced through repurchase and destruction to a fixed ceiling of 21 million, which makes its issuance schedule more legible than most exchange tokens.

Exchange tokens are equity-like without being equity

The value comes from fee discounts, platform privileges and buybacks funded by exchange revenue. That resembles a share in the business without conferring ownership, dividends or any legal claim on it. Holders benefit while the exchange chooses to keep funding buybacks and honouring discounts, and have no recourse if it stops.

Burns tie supply to revenue

Repurchasing and destroying tokens using exchange income links supply reduction to how much business the platform does. It is a more durable mechanism than a fixed burn schedule because it responds to actual performance, and it depends entirely on the company's willingness to continue.

The concentrated risk

Everything rests on one company. Regulatory action, an exploit, an enforcement decision or a change of fee policy reaches the token directly with no diversification. That risk category has repeatedly materialised across this sector and it is the defining exposure of every exchange token.

Utility that only exists while the platform does

Fee discounts have value if you trade there. If access is withdrawn in your jurisdiction, or the exchange restructures its programme, the utility disappears while you still hold the asset. This is a different failure mode from a protocol token, whose utility persists as long as the chain runs.
