Overview

About Mantle

Mantle (MNT) is the native token of an Ethereum-based layer-2 ecosystem that aims to connect traditional finance with decentralized finance. MNT powers governance, staking and fees across a suite of products, and the project positions itself as a unified on-chain financial services platform rather than a single app. It currently ranks around 52 by market capitalization.

What is Mantle?

Mantle is best understood as an ecosystem rather than a lone network. Its stack includes Mantle Network, a scaling layer for cheaper and faster transactions; mETH Protocol for liquid staking; Function (FBTC) for on-chain bitcoin exposure; and an index product, Mantle Index Four (MI4). The common thread is bringing institutional-grade financial services on chain while keeping them accessible to everyday Web3 users.

How does Mantle work?

As an Ethereum layer 2, Mantle Network processes transactions off the Ethereum mainnet and settles back to it, inheriting Ethereum's security while lowering cost and latency. Users transact in a familiar EVM environment, so existing Ethereum tooling and contracts port over with little friction. The MNT token sits at the center of this design as the asset for governance decisions, staking participation and network activity.

Mantle tokenomics and supply

Circulating supply is roughly 3.3 billion MNT, while total and maximum supply both sit near 6.22 billion, meaning a meaningful portion is not yet in circulation. That gap matters because future unlocks can add sell pressure. MNT's core roles include:

  • Governance over the ecosystem's direction and treasury
  • Staking to support network operations and earn rewards
  • Paying for activity across Mantle's products and network

MNT reached an all-time high near $2.86 and an all-time low around $0.31, underlining how volatile even ecosystem tokens can be.

What is Mantle used for?

Mantle's categories, spanning smart contract platform, layer 2 and DeFi, reflect its ambition to be a full financial stack. In practice that means using MNT and the network's products to stake ETH for yield, hold tokenized bitcoin exposure, access index strategies, and interact with DeFi applications built on the network, all with the lower fees a layer 2 provides.

Where to buy Mantle

MNT is listed on many centralized venues. Use our best crypto exchanges ranking to compare liquidity, fees and supported networks before buying, since bridging to layer 2 adds a step worth understanding. For storage, our best crypto wallets ranking highlights EVM-compatible options that connect cleanly to Mantle's applications.

Is Mantle a good investment?

Mantle's appeal is a large, funded ecosystem tackling scalability and the TradFi-DeFi bridge at once. The risks are real: layer-2 competition is crowded, a large share of supply remains locked, and token value depends on the ecosystem attracting durable usage. This is a speculative asset with significant volatility. Research thoroughly and never invest more than you can afford to lose. This is not financial advice.
