Where to buy Mantle
About Mantle
Mantle is a modular Ethereum Layer 2 that separates execution, settlement and data availability rather than handling all three itself, and it operates alongside one of the largest treasuries in the industry. That treasury is as central to understanding it as the architecture.
Modular means data availability is a choice
Publishing all transaction data to Ethereum is the largest cost a rollup carries. Mantle uses a separate data availability layer instead, cutting costs substantially. The trade is explicit: data availability is then guaranteed by that layer's security rather than by Ethereum's, which is a weaker assurance and the reason fees are lower.
The treasury shapes the ecosystem
An unusually large treasury funds protocols, liquidity and products directly, letting the network buy ecosystem depth rather than wait for it. It also means a substantial part of activity exists because it was funded, and separating organic usage from subsidised usage is the analytical task for anyone evaluating the chain.
Products rather than only infrastructure
Mantle operates its own liquid staking and yield products alongside the chain, capturing value at the application layer instead of only at the sequencer. Most Layer 2s earn from sequencing alone; running products is a different business model with a correspondingly different risk profile.
What MNT does
MNT pays gas on the network and governs the treasury. Governance over a treasury of that size is a substantive right rather than a nominal one — the allocation decisions materially affect the ecosystem the token depends on.
The honest assessment
Mantle offers cheap execution and deep funded liquidity, backed by an organisation with genuine resources. The cost is a data availability assumption weaker than a pure Ethereum rollup's, and an ecosystem whose durability without subsidy has yet to be demonstrated.
Technical data
Frequently asked
Why is Mantle cheaper than other rollups?
It publishes transaction data to a separate data availability layer rather than to Ethereum. That removes the largest cost and replaces Ethereum's data guarantee with a weaker one.
What does MNT do?
It pays gas on the network and governs the treasury, which funds ecosystem protocols, liquidity and products directly.
What is a modular blockchain?
One that separates execution, settlement and data availability into distinct layers rather than performing all three itself, allowing each to be optimised or outsourced.
