A fingerprint-unlocked EAL5+ device from a Korean security firm, covering many networks over Bluetooth, with no public firmware repository.

Our assessment

D'CENT is made by IoTrust, a Korean cybersecurity company operating since 2017, and is the only device in this comparison that unlocks with a fingerprint. It uses an EAL5+ secure element and connects to a mobile app over Bluetooth, covering more than 80 networks and 4,500 tokens.

Biometrics instead of a PIN

The fingerprint sensor replaces PIN entry for transaction confirmation, which removes shoulder-surfing and speeds up routine use. Reported reliability varies with finger placement and skin condition, so it is a convenience improvement rather than a security upgrade — a fingerprint cannot be changed once it is compromised, which a PIN can.

Why the score sits mid-table

We found no public firmware repository, no independent security research programme and no legal terms at a conventional address. Our rubric scores what a buyer can verify before purchase, and a device whose code cannot be inspected has to be taken on the vendor's word. The device may well be sound — that is exactly the problem the score is describing.
