Bitcoin went through a volatile session on October 13, dipping sharply before recovering most of its losses. At the same time, one of the best-known names of the NFT boom confirmed its retreat. Together, the two stories show how selective the market has become.

Bitcoin Tests $81,000, Then Reclaims Ground

Bitcoin briefly traded just under $81,000 on Tuesday before buyers pushed the price back above $83,000. The dip coincided with a steep selloff in South Korean chip stocks, with the KOSPI index falling more than 5% at one point, which hit risk appetite across global markets. Total crypto market capitalization slipped about 2% to roughly $2.85 trillion, yet Bitcoin recovered faster than the Korean equity market.

Hawkish Fed Remarks Keep Traders Cautious

US monetary policy remains the key macro driver. Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack, a 2026 FOMC voter, said on Monday that a restrictive policy stance is still needed to bring inflation back to the 2% target. Her comments reinforced expectations that the Fed is in no hurry to ease, just ahead of its late-October meeting.

Institutional demand has also cooled. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $484.9 million in net outflows on October 7, led by BlackRock's IBIT, according to Farside Investors data. Digital asset investment products posted more than $1.2 billion in outflows over the past week. Investors now turn to earnings from major US banks and this week's inflation data for the next signal.

Blur Confirms NFT Marketplace Shutdown

Blur, once the leading Ethereum NFT marketplace, announced on Monday that it will close its frontend next month. The onchain marketplace protocol will remain operational, and BLUR holders will keep control of the protocol's fee switch. Blur's lending product, Blend, will stop matching new loans on November 12. Borrowers have until then to repay their loans or let them default, and a frontend tool for withdrawing assets will follow.

The BLUR token fell more than 20% on the news to around $0.015, giving it a market capitalization of roughly $44 million. Monthly trading volume on the platform peaked near $1.43 billion in March 2023 and dropped below $7 million three years later. The announcement follows the wind-down plans of the Ethereum layer-2 networks Blast and Abstract.

What It Means for US Market Participants

For American traders, the takeaway is a market that reacts quickly to macro signals while speculative corners shrink. Bitcoin's rebound shows that dip buyers remain active, but sustained ETF outflows and a cautious Fed leave little room for complacency. The Blur shutdown shows that incentive-driven NFT trading has not recovered, and capital is concentrating in larger, more liquid assets.

What to Watch Next

Key events this week include earnings from large US banks, the September inflation report and further Fed commentary ahead of the late-October policy meeting. Any shift in ETF flows will also be closely monitored. This article is for informational purposes only and is not financial advice.
